The Character Sheet: Resolutions, Aspect Ratios, and Orientations Oh My!
D&D Beyond displays the Character Sheet cleanly on a 1920x1080p display (Landscape 1080p). However it doesn't take advantage of the screen space on any of the following:
- Other Resolutions such as 3840x2160 (4k) or 2560X1440p
- Portrait orientation (for example 1080x1920p,Portrait 1080p)
- Other Aspect Ratios such as 21x9 or 4x3 (still used by the majority of the world)
Being able to access more information on a single screen is a useful feature, one that is already available in Roll20 and some other digital Character Sheets. This is especially important when viewing things like a characters Inventory, Backstory, Notes, Spell List, and (critically) Features.
D&D Beyond has done something similar already for mobile and tablet viewing, so hopefully this could be done with little hassle. It could be implemented with some technical-investment by dynamic resizing based on the display window (via. HTML5). It could also be implemented with less technical-investment via hardcoded viewing options for the most popular variations which could be selected by user (Default 1080p Landscape). And, though it might be more difficult, this could also be accomplished by allowing users to create and save different Character Sheet Layouts (perhaps via a building-block method).
I invite other's opinions on this topic and appreciate the D&D Beyond Development Team's consideration of the point.
