This would also be helpful for players if they happen to make an error in updating something like XP. Instead of guessing, they can see the log of changes and make smart fixes.

This might be controlled better by having the dm dole out experience/level gains (and not allowing the player to touch that part of the level up process)?

Agreed, this would be great as a player too. Right now I haven't yet had to level up a character I've made on DDB (as I usually manage the character through Roll20 alone), so I usually just note the changes on level up in my session notes, but it'd be nice to easily track changes just from the sheet.

Also, this sort of duplicates Jennie G's request here: Changelog for character sheet

A changelog would be super helpful, for both players and DM's.

As a DM I would like to make secret changes to my player's sheet, having a thief steal or plant something without them knowing, if their perception is too low of course.

This is essential when trying to manage several players and keep tabs on all of them. Should be integrated to the planned DM view.

i cant upvote this enough. ive been wanting this since i first went on dnd beyond.

not only for DM's but players too. how often have you gotten to mid level character just to be like how is my HP this number and wish there was a way to see what you rolled way back when for that stat. plus incase you accidentally hit a rest and need to figure out what you had already used.

and yes trying to manage all the tiny updates of all the characters is so hard to do. and i know plenty of DM's who collect the character sheets from the players because they are afraid of cheating. so an open viewable log is a must

There is a great opportunity to kill two birds with a single stone - Add AL log sheets ...

AL (Adventurers League) is Wizard's official mechanism of Organized Play.  It already has a requirement for logging campaign rewards and character changes.  ref: https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115007325067-Adventurers-League-Support

If this gets planned could this also involve a Currency Activity Log, particularly useful for the group banker.
